I still have the "no-automatic-learning-from-games-to-book" issue not completely understood and if it is a glitch, it was not fixed yet. Some of my comparisons, between the three extant Fritz 7 engine versions, are paradoxical - for instance, I run some dozens of lightining blitz between Tiger 14 and two of the Fritz 7 different engine versions (that of Jan 11 and that of Jan 7 2002) and sensed a difference; I will not say anything else because I am still running the test. However, again IMHO the software was worth every dime I paid for it. If I were in your position, I would buy this program because I am sure at least that no other is better and, once adhering to CB line, you will certainly benefit from future upgrades. Also, if you need long run continuous analysis, the "add an engine kiblitzer" funcion of Fritz 7 will probably be of great help. I have seen amazing games won - and lost - by Fritz 7. The engine has some feature that makes it seem to have intensive positional understanding - that may include mistakes as well as fine combination tatics. Bugs and queries (and I am quite demanding in hunting and discussing and broadcasting them) will not affect the comparative value of the product, mainly if it counters its alternatives. In your budget, take into consideration that computing power is to make a sharp difference when you need deep analysis; the engine and GUI qualities will not hold by themselves. Karen
