It seems to be less than $50.  Not exactly a big risk.  Fritz is plenty strong.
Another $50 will land you a Tiger.  Then another $50 and you have Junior.  Or go
down to the department store and cough up $30 for ChessMaster 8000.  I saw it
online once for $13 (but I would rather buy it in a place where I can get
service).

At any rate, chess software is dirt cheap.  Hard to see how you could go wrong.
