It is easy to search to 100 plies when the first move chosen at the root returns
an exact score due to endgame databases *and cuts off*.  In this case it's just
a matter of doing the same few nodes over and over until you reach your maximum
search depth cutoff.

You don't get this many plies of depth otherwise, unless you have locked pawns.
