there is some official documentation written by the deep blue
authors. i am quoting this:

iterationdepth - 4 was how the software part was initialized.

DOT.

"in hardware about 4 ply was done, but extensions could trigger
more plies".

So that's 11 - 12 ply search depth. Ok it is a minimum, but so
does DIEP have minimum search depths.
