The US correspondence (postal) championship is under the auspicies of ICCF-US, which does not prohibit computer use. Other US chess organizations such as USCF, APCT, and CCLA prohibit the use of computers, but these organizations do not direct the US championship. I recently won the 13th championship (10 wins, 3 draws and 0 losses). It is my belief that most of my opponents were using computers in some way or other (totally legal), but I don't believe you can win these events just by plugging your positions into a chess program and letting it tell you what move to make. I DO think that knowledge of computers is helpful in postal chess. One of the reasons I read this message board is to learn what are considered to be the strengths and weaknesses of computers. In postal chess of today, this knowledge helps win games. Robin Smith
