GM van Wely has just produced one of the worst resutls I have seen from such a
strong grandmaster. Rebel may have caught GM van Wely at the right time. I think
Rebel will win.
It is clear nonsense to think a strong single CPU chess program on a fast
machine can not produce results above a 2700 elo player. Remember that Chess
Tiger 14 on a *slow* PIII 866 produced an outstanding results in Magistral
República Argentina 2001. Chess Tiger 14 was playing some strong Grandmasters
and IM's and won the tounament without a loss, resulting in a TPR of 2788 for
Chess Tiger 14.
I don't think Rebel is as strong as Chess Tiger even playing humans, but I bet
is will be running on hardware that will be 2x faster then what Tiger was
running in Argentina. At this time I must favor the Computer over the human.
