When you run setup from the Cygwin address I posted, you have lots of things you can download besides the compiler. I thought that bash came automatically. If there is a funny icon on your desktop that looks kind of like a black letter C with a green tongue in it, that is the bash prompt. If you don't have it, you'll want to get it if you plan to do cygwin programming. It sets the environment for GCC for you (for instance). It's a nice experience to learn that shell too.
