Hi Ed, sorry I don't share your dislike of ...d3. I like ...d3! It does not do much for black's development at first sight. But it it does a lot to prevent white from a fast development. So it's so to say only another way of struggling for space and time. Now the advantage: it's an unusual way to do so. Many human players thinking about how to develop their game after ...Nf6 will feel disturbed by the move, forcing them to find another plan than the one they regarded as 'natural'. I like ...d3 (not knowing how the original game continued)! And I am not sure if other computer programs might have certain problems with white's development after that as well...
