I think one of the biggest reasons that I stopped playing email chess was because of computers. There's really no way to stop someone from using a computer and it's basically unenforcable. I have NEVER used a computer for anything other than a playing partner and to help me with my openings. The only email chess I play now is with people I know personally. Since there isn't a club close by where I live, this is how we play. We have all agreed not to use a computer during play. To do so would be less than honorable. I think if more people were to take this stance, correspondence chess would a more honorable endeavor. NOTHING will subsitute OTB play as far as I'm concerned. There's nothing like sitting across from someone throwing the pieces around and hitting the clock. You don't have to worry about playing someone's computer because you're right there in fron of them. Online chess is fun, but the same problem with cheating exists and all most people want to do is play speed. That's been my experience anyway. Juts my 2 cents. Regards, Jeff
