In 1983 we were doing about 20K nodes per second when we won the world championship. Belle was doing about 160K nodes per second. Yes, I suspect Crafty would win that handily as it would be close to 1M nodes per second at 2ghz. In 1986 it was a bit tougher. We ran on an 8 CPU Cray YMP and we were doing 200K-300K nodes per second on that machine. Beating that would be more of a challenge although I would still probably bet on Crafty. But not by a wide margin. Finally, on the most recent Cray hardware? It would be a very tough match as CB could do on the order of 5M-7M nodes per second on the 32 cpu machine... The PC would have a _lot_ of trouble with that.
