Currently an Atlon based system is superior for chess. What will happen in the future. With speed ramps and upgraded CPU cores is unknown. The P4 will ramp in speed, as will the Atlon with a smaller core. And beyond that there is the AMD Hammer with a high projected performance. Intel's Itanium does not seem to be a contender for the cess speed crown. MvH Dan Andersson
