I just finished my upgrade for three computers , two AMD Athlon XP 1800 + . Run
Fritz 7 Fritz Mark test. Fritz Mark shows they outpreform Intel Pentium 4
1.8Ghz and the AMD Machines cost me $250 to $350 less. All systems run on win
98SE .
Also Norton shows AMD does better. All systems have 512MB of Ram. AMD Systems
have same motherboard (ASUS A7266-E)onboard video. Intel motherboard D850MV
with GeForce 3 video. Although video has nothing to to due with the test above.
All may show how good AMD is for chess may give a clue to that. Other kinds of
software that makes use of the Pentium 4 instruction set may be another matter.
Norton test show
AMD Score to be
(Note the 1800 + (is 1.537Ghz)
826.5
Intel score
1.8Ghz
640
Fritz 7 Fritz Mark test on AMD
system.

Same test for Intel
939
Nodes = 656 KN/s
Last note I had AMD systems for years with no probleums.
