Yes, you have setup the first and second program to be movei. The second line is
another alternative gnuches
Okay explaination time
Normally you need the following line
"Crafty1813" /fd=c:\crafty1813
The first part "Crafty1813" refers to the executable file. the second part
/fd=c:\crafty1813 refers to where the file is residing. If it's already in the
winboard directory you don't need the second part.
so just
"Crafty1813" should do
For the secondprogram, you do the same thing , except that instead of /fd=....
you do /sd=....
Notice that sometimes you need a special command to tell the engine that it is
in xboard mode. normally you need to type xboard.
So for gnuchess you have "Gnuchess xboard" . Xboard is not necessary for crafty
except for very old versions.

Not sure about simple, but there are a few websites around explaining how to do
it. Maybe even the winboard help files..

Hmm. Mogen larsen has posted his,Thomas Mayer has a zipped file etc and i or
anyone of us who use many winboard forums can give you a copy of our
winboard.ini file but I doubt it will work without lots of work, mainly because
we usually rename the executable according to our naming conventions.
Also I may be wrong, but most people do not work the exectuables in the winboard
directory but rather in external directorys. Very common, I think is to put it
in something like c:\chess engines\

Unfortunately yes, you have to edit the winboard.ini file each time. But it's a
lot easier when you get used to it.

Well how about opening books? Learn files? Documentation is also important, each
engine is slightly different.

Crafty 15? any reason why such a old version is used?
Anyway you don't need the start.zip , I would rather download the book.bin files
from crafty's ftp

I'm sure Tim Mann would appreciate any documentation you can give :)
Seriously, it's a struggle at first, but I'm sure you will master it quickly.
Sure setting up winboard is not easy when first starting, otherwise why do you
think there are so many websites set up on using winboard?
