Supposedly the current state of Go software only reaches a playing strength
comparable with a chess ELO of 1500.

Some people claim that this is because Go's strategy is too complex to be
described by a computer. I prefer the explanation that it's because relatively
little research has been done into Go programming, compared with chess
programming. Maybe this will change some time in the future when chess software
techniques have reached a plateau and very little improvement can be made.
