It is very likely that your tables (recently downloaded ones) have at least
one that is corrupted.  Check the file sizes to be sure they match with some-
one else _exactly_.  If any do not match, dump them and re-download.  The
probe code does a few consistency checks on the tables and if one is broken,
it will exit during initialization.  That _sounds_ like what is happening to
you although nothing is certain.
