I've been using Fritz 7 ever since its first release, but this week problems have occurred that puzzle me. I suspect that the problems are somehow my own fault, but despite being "computer literate" I can't solve them myself. For five days I had been running an engine tournament. Mostly I kept Fritz 7 minimized while I was doing other stuff, but I occasionally maximized the window to see what was going on. Then, after 5 days, I found that I couldn't re-minimize the window. "Curious", I thought, so I booted my PC. When I started Fritz again the blue start screen was built up VERY slowly... it took about two minutes. Eventually I started Fritz again. Then I opened the Windows Explorer, and it somehow overlapped with the Fritz display, the mini-icons were displayed on top of the Fritz window, ie the Windows integrity was broken. I could no longer access the start menu, so I had to hit the reset button. My first guess was a virus. McAfee showed up nothing, so I'm clean, unless there's a brand new virus not included in the latest update patterns. My second guess was that Fritz 7 was corrupted, so I uninstalled it, re-installed from CD, re-installed the update. The same problem. My third guess is a corrupted system DLL, but I'm reluctant to re-install Windows because Fritz 6 still works, and so do all my other programs, as far as I can tell. Really weird. I have four questions: 1. Has anyone else had the same problem, either immediately after installing Fritz 7 or later? 2. Does anyone know what the problem is? 3. Does anyone know how I may have caused it? 4. Does anyone know to fix it?
