hi John,
CM9000 SUGGESTIONS--
1. Provide a way to show some or all parameter settings at a glance
A. Include ability to always show Engine version number & Hash Table size,
at a minimum, perhaps in title bar on top of screen, for easy, permanent
reference, whether using continuous analysis or game analysis mode. This helps
avoid wrong settings not discovered until much later. A couple other critical
parameters might be added to the permanent ones displayed--settings that
determine the brute force depth or when tablebases kick in, etc.
B. Provide a menu selection, to easily display some or all other user
settable parameters (for any CM9000 or custom user personality)
2. Embed above info in results of engine analysis, so it is automatically
included on printouts (whether by cut & paste, or via any analysis print
buttons).
3. Show the depth info (ex. 6/13) next to time taken for move analysis, on all
analysis printouts.
A. Provide good definition in help files, so user can understand exactly
what each figure means (completed depth or depth currently worked on, etc).
4. Fix the analysis output to look like it used to be--where the suggested best
move and best line of play shows *after* the move on the left that was played in
the game. At a glance, on the same line, you can then see the actually played
move, and the suggested computer best move/line. In CM8000, on the line of an
analyzed move there is shown only the suggested followup best line of
play--based on the played text. You don't know how awkward this is--not being
more standard as in most other major programs that I know of and use. Since
this used to work fine, why not go back to the older method of display--please!
5. Provide an easy button click method to enter the custom personality and on a
single screen alter, either temporarily or permanently (i.e. save the settings),
some adjustable parameters.
If you need a CM9000 beta tester (as I was with CM8000), even if not just for
rating calculations of personalities, please let me know!
Thanks,
