But are those games estenially the same rules?  AFAIK Go is accepted to be the
oldest games with no signifacnt change in the rules.

The last two major changes where:  Board went to 19x19 from 17x17 and the
Japanese players stopped putting stones on the handicap points for the intial
board position for even games.

(what i mean is that back in the Tokagowa Shogunante, the Japanese broke away
from the Chinese trandition of starting a game with 4 stones already on the
board on the diagonal 4,4 points.  The Chinese continued this tradition up till
the early 20th cen.)

And Go is elegant, deep, complex....but CUTE????  Grr.. ;)
