True - but how many engines are actually creative ?? - few I would say.  Still I
would like to be able to Ponder a null move which could give this flexibility.
This could be added by allowing "bestmove xxxx ponder" i.e. no ponder move

Yes you do.  You can set the OwnBook variable and you have full control.
