If you do endgame studies it will make a significant difference. Otherwise, the overall playing strength does not increase dramatically with EGTB support. The difference between having/not having the 6-men tables that are available is an even smaller difference. Others have estimated the difference in playing strength for EGTB on/off, so you may find more info via the archive search. IIRC it was estimated around 20-30 ELO points. Clearly a smaller effect than doubling the CPU speed. >BUT anyone >might afraid after looking it's size and I don't have space for that (sorry I >don't know the total size may be it will reach more then 100gigs or what ?for >all the 6 men tablebase??????may be my guess .so I would hope for reproducing >the tablebase in smaller size in the comming future from nalimov or anyone . >it would be very very nice news for chess lovers when 3-4-5-6 men tablebase >comes to a compact size .when will it be ?I am waiting .....all are waiting. >ram. Frankly, don't hold your breath. The Nalimov EGTBs are already compressed with a specially designed compression algorithm. Currently nobody seems to know a much better method to compress them, so I don't expect much innovation here. And even _if_ a new method would cut the size to 50%... that would not help your disk space problem that much. I'd suggest to be happy with what is there (having all 5-men is nice, isn't it?) HAND!
