Hello – I recently finished a little forced-mate training app. That is, training for human players, not training for computer chess engines… Is it OK to post here on chess-training-software topics? If not, please just let me know. I wouldn’t even have posted this once, except I saw some recent messages here about people using Bookup for chess training. Anyway, the little app is called FM Gym or Forced-Mate Gym. It’s at http://www.learnabunch.com/ and it’s freeware. It’s also pretty new, like beta. There’s a FAQ with answers to things like why I wrote it, see http://www.learnabunch.com/FM_Gym/fm_gym_faq.htm#WhyDidYouWriteFMGym I’m guessing every GM in the world would be bored to tears with FM_Gym. I really can’t say how valuable or fun it might be to anyone other than myself, but if anyone tries it out, I’d be interested to hear about your views. Including any bugs you find, usability warts, flaming criticisms, positive feedback, whatever. For recent Windows (2000, ME, XP) the download is bad, but not too bad by today’s standards (3 Mb). But: for any older Windows, it’s just totally APPALLING!!! 15 stinkin’ megs! You’ll find more explanations and my apologies at http://www.learnabunch.com/FM_Gym/fm_gym_faq.htm#WhyIsTheDownloadSoHuge OK, I’ve rambled on… If anyone gives it a whirl, like I say, I’d be interested to hear what you think. Cheers, Bruce
