I just read a number of silly comments about Deep Blue and PC expansion cards. A few points: First and foremost, DB chips would be implemented in a PC the same way graphics chips are. Commands are sent to them, they process the commands, and then they return answers. There's nothing tricky about this part. Second, DB chips would drastically improve the PC's performance. Instead of doing a 4 ply search, the processor simply hands things off to a DB chip. A DB chip is much faster and more knowledgeable than a general purpose microprocessor at this. Third, using multiple DB chips would be almost trivial. Let's say you have a Pentium and a card with 8 DB chips. To use them, you simply change Crafty MP so it uses the chips. Then you fire the program up with 8 threads. Each thread uses a chip, and BOOM, you have 8-way multiprocessing. I can't think of a fourth point right now so I'll just leave it at that. Cheers, Tom
