I found a sure-fire way to win.  You don't have to buy a book either.

Just wait until the smug computer thinks it has some sure-fire advantage --
maybe even imagining that it has an enormous lead.  Immediately after making
your move, kick the plug out of the wall.  The computer loses on time every
single game.
