I read in EPD2WB.txt that I got together with gerbil the following:
For example, to run the app with Gerbil, on the EPD test suite, for 20 seconds
per move, you would do:
epd2wb gerbil.exe ecm.epd 20
Can someone explain me exactly what I need to do to try this example?
What are the files that I need to put in my winboard directory?
(I prefer to put all the relevant files in the winboard directory if possible)
Can you give me also a copy of the exact winboard.ini that I need to run test
suites?
Here is a descreption of what I know about winboard:
I can run a game of my program against Gerbil under winboard with black by the
changing the last lines of winboard to the following lines
/firstChessProgramNames={movei005
"GNUChes5 xboard"
}
/secondChessProgramNames={GERBIL
"GNUChes5 xboard"
}
/showButtonBar=true
I need to put movei005.exe and GERBIL.exe in the winboard directory(in the case
of GERBIL I also needed to put GERBIL.opn in the same directory)
If I want to play GERBIL with white I simply change the order of words GERBIL
and movei005 in winboard.ini
My engine support some commands that are needed to play games
Here are the important commands that my engine understands(I did not include few
commands that it understands like tscp when they are not needed for games or
test suites):
1)xboard
2)new(tell it to start a new game)
3)quit(to leave winboard)
4)force(stop to play)
5)sd(fixed depth)
6)time(the time it has)
7)otime(ignores)
8)go(computer play)
9)level(it is only interested in the first number because
it is going to get the second number in the first move by the time command)
10)setboard(it ignores the last 3 fields and it means that it always assume that
en passant is impossible in the root position,I may change it later but the
number of test positions when the first move is en passant capture is almost 0)
I have no idea how to use winboard for test suites in order to test GERBIL or
test my engine.
