This would work great in Holland.

It wouldn't work so great in the USA.

Tom is in Portland now, so I can't say I'm the only computer chess programmer in
the region, but that's still a 3 hour drive.

If there are no stakes there shouldn't be any reason to cheat.

I don't want to do that kind of tournament though.  It cuts out all excuse to
ever get together.
