Take an EPD string (it has to be correct) and put a [d] or [D] in front of it.

This won't work, because there is an error in the string:
[D]1b2k3/r2ngn1p/4p1b1/4q2r/4Q2R/4P1B1/R2NPN1P/1B2K3 w - -

This will work, because the string is correct:
[D]1b2k3/r2npn1p/4p1b1/4q2r/4Q2R/4P1B1/R2NPN1P/1B2K3 w - -

If you have any doubts, get EPD2DIAG and make all of your pictures with that.
