Well, you could also add an exercise that a teacher of mine used to give: play
over a game blindfold, and at a given moment ask where all the pieces were.
Sometimes he'd just ask about pieces or pawns, and sometimes the whole bloody
position. The question always came after changes had been made in order to help
fight against lingering ghost images in the mind. He was a little tougher than
that though, as he also asked small tactical questions well into the game, but
you get the idea. Perhaps it could be worked out to help at least intermediate
players as well.
