(Not about computers, but icd told me I should put this on here anyway) I am looking for a certain type of plastic chess set which was sold in the early 1960's. It had about 4-inch King, and was a fairly cheap and not especially good-looking set. It was seen occasionally at tournaments and clubs until about 1970, but was not very common. I do not know what trade name it was marketed under, but I was told it was made by Missouri Plastics Co. of St. Louis, and was modeled after a wood set called the "St. Louis Champion." At least three color combinations were produced: black/white, red/white, and brown/"banana bread" yellow. This set has several noticeable characteristics: --a high "collar" on the Knight, with only a small horse's head showing; --a narrow neck on the Bishop, also the slot in the head is small, rather horizontal; --the Queen is about as tall as the King, and the scallops on her crown point straight up instead of being flared outward; --the bases of the pieces have rather vague, indistinct waves instead of the usual grooves and ridges. Anyone know where I might find such a set to buy? Roger Blaine, Indiana zotshot@hotmail.com
