From the Rebel site:
"Desperation. Black has lost a pawn after 31...Bf8 32. Ne5! Re7 33. Nxf6! Nxf6
34. Qxe8 Ncxe8 (34...Rxe8 35. Nf7 mate) 35. Bxf8."

I think it was also said that van Wely said he did not like to enter a lost
endgame after this line or something similiar.  I have not analyzed it myself.
