Subject: Do current programs offer an API ?

This may not be needed but I can't seem to locate any software that will
automate the competition between two chess programs connected via IP address. I
was thinking of creating an application that could communicate with the chess
engines and communicate moves back and forth that way. The reason I was thinking
of this is because I could never get the Auto232 to work from the various
programs that support it. Again this might not be needed, I am certainly not an
expert in this area.
