My PC has 512 MB of Ram installed. (The prices fell so low that I couldn't resist the temptation to upgrade). I thought this would mean I could use larger hashtables for engine tournaments, such as 128 MB per engine. But there was still a noticeable amount of disk-swapping. According to the Windows utility System Monitor 197 MB of my memory was being used for disk cache! This figure varies, and it seems to creep steadily upwards during tablebase access. Is there any way to tell Windows to reduce the disk cache to a sensible level?
