Mine was 809 with 64MB so this is still not going to be fast enough for what i
plan on doing. I want to run 1700 positions that i had left over from when i had
an 800Mhz Athlon, I had run just about every test set out there for 15minutes
and so i cut down well over 8000 positions into 3 files ending (838 positions )
Tactical (352) and Positional (557). Now i am working on a bunch of tactical
positions from ossmitz webpage but i imagine that alot of these were already
solved it was 5000+ and eventually i will rerun the 1747 and an additional 200
that were solved by other programs, and lastly a set of 80 or so that were
solved with Fritz 6 but i am re-running with the new software. Now i am running
them at 90 minutes a piece but this is very time consuming why 90 minutes? Well
Chess tiger, gambit tiger, Goliath , Junior 6 were taking upto 90 minutes to
solve some of the "Easier" Nolot positions so i figures if Fritz 7 can't solve a
certain amount of problems in this time period then these positions are either
harder than the nolot positions , incorrect (a few Aemis positions are) or the
solution given is wrong.
to top it off i would like to add the larger epd sets from Dan Corbit's Ftp but
some are well over 80,000 positions. A comp twice as fast would cut the time in
half. 126+ days is a long time especially when you only have two computers so i
would probably use the 1Gig and use the faster comp at the same time. It is
appearing that most chess programs will solve most positions within this time
period. 32Ghz is along way off still. Atleast if i did the main set at 90
minutes (or 45 when i get something twice as fast) then the most important work
would be done.
