Quite right, this is indeed old news. Perhaps the best way to understand it is
that the engineering model for the Pentium best fit their business model as is.

AMD, as the underdog in the CPU market share battle, just fought harder for
better performance this time through the product cycle.

Naturally, we hope AMD will continue to force Intel to improve their designs and
manufacturing beyond what they would otherwise implement. Of course, Intel may
win the next round in the high performance market.

The consumer can only win in this kind of competitive market!
