I wasted quite a bit of time reinstalling, etc. in an attempt to fix the problem, but obviously I was unsuccessful. I didn't imagine the source of the problem would turn out to be what it is. I've e-mailed Chessbase - I think the least they can do is to get a patch released as soon as possible. Like many of the other Chessbase problems, this isn't exactly a minor problem. The fact is that Shredder 6 has effectively become useless, although admittedly my pet dog still likes to play against it. While many of us are understandably annoyed, it must be even worse for those users who don't read sites like this one. At least we can stop wasting time trying to get it working ourselves. On a lighter note... I played a 5 round Swiss at the weekend and afterwards stepped through my games with Shredder 6 analysing. Earlier, while I played round 5, I got tired, stopped thinking and played too fast; I lost badly. Anyway, when later analysing my first four games with Shredder 6, it displayed its usual analysis... continuously hammering away at each and every position I stopped at. However, for game 5 it started "playing" too fast - it just immediately thought of a move and then gave up thinking... and I had been ridiculing myself for such sloppy play! There's still hope for mankind. ;-) Gordon
