Hi.

When you use the combination of: Time control 40/120+60/game, GUI-book and the
beta-adapter from 2 March, I can ensure you that the time-management is wrong.
This bug/test was reported to me after this date so it is better in the latest
version.

There is still some time-management to sort out that have mostly with the first
move after book and when analysing in Fritz. I don’t send 'white/black' so if
the engine internal has a white- black clock instead of engine- opponent clock
there could be some confusion. This is on my workbench right now, e.g. first
ensure that my test engine (PolarChess) does it so closely to the protocol as
possible and then get the adapter to feed the necessary commands.

When it comes to CM/The King so is my only test with this when I have tried to
repair a reported bug to see if it is repaired.
This would not say that I’m not happy with 'bug'-reports from users who use The
King, I guess it is because of this use that I have received so many
‘bug’-reports, but this have mainly been with time control like game in minutes
(Fritz 7 server). The King also seem to be a good implementation of the
Winboard-protocol in The King so it help me to find bugs that would be common
for all engines.

When you 'beta-test' the adapter I would like it if you always use the latest
version so you not use your time to find ‘bugs’ that both is reported and
repaired.
If you try to use the adapter as a finish product you have to wait until it is
released or use either the adapter that is in the Shredder package or the old
Winboard-adapter from Chessbase. I have not checked but am told that this
CB-adapter is legally included in the 'Quark' package so you will find it there
if you don’t have it.
My adapter has maybe a lot of beta-version but this was because I did not have
any suitable GUI to test it with in the beginning so I was depended on others to
do the tests.

There is also another issue when using GUI-book with amateur engines that I from
start of thought would be a very seldom use of the adapter. When I use a
Winboard engine I would hardly enable anything outside the engine that could
reflect its strength. Wouldn’t it also be illegal use of the interface if you
want to have it compete in a tournament? Later when I received my Shredder I see
its match feature as a very nice way to test engines because of its ability to
repeat the same opening with switched colour on every second game. So now I use
this GUI for testing but of course disable all learning in the GUI.

Sorry to CCC readers for this somewhat personal answer but it is obvious many
people outside the 'beta-test' environment that struggle with the adapter.
