Junior 5.0 will be a 32-bit engine for ChessBase. It will work with ChessBase
7.0 and with Fritz 5.32, a rewrite of Fritz5 for Win32. Fritz 5.32 will be
released together with Junior5, sometime this summer. It will later be a
platform for a Nimzo engine.

New features will be:

- True 32-bit operation of both the Fritz/CB shell and Junior engine, which
alone account for 20%-25% speed increase over the 16-bit environment.
- A new "engine parameters" setting capability, which will enable to control
several interesting features of the engine, for analysis, playing or sparring
purposes. E.g.: A "combination mode" will select the best setting for finding
combinations and solving tactical suites, randomization of play, disabling of
entire classes of eval features, and more.
- Autoplayer.
- The new 5.0 engine.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a spokesman for Chessbase, and this is not a product
announcement.

The 5.0 engine contains many changes compared to the 4.6 engine. The changes
represent evolution, not revolution. Most of the changes are in evaluation of
the middlegame, but there are some significant changes in the endgame, and the
engine is in general a bit faster. All of these I think produce a style that is
a bit more solid, and overall stronger. How much stronger is really tough to
say, even with a lot of testing, but I will give an estimate of 40-50 rating
points.
