If he is using 64 bit variables, I could imagine problems with a 16 bit
compiler. I'm not getting any errors or warnings in MS Visual 6.0, so I think
the code is fine, maybe you have not setup the Borland environment correctly?

I don't know anything about the Borland products, but usually you need to create
some kind of project to make sure all the *.c files are compiled and linked into
one binary.

Qbasic? :)
If you've made an entire chess engine in Qbasic, I think you are ready to move
on up, and C is very good for chess.
