I read it like this: They compared the ratios GCC3.0x/GCC2.95.3 and ICC/MSVC
separately. Not the ratios GCC3.0x/MSVC and ICC/MSVC. Else it does not make much
sense. Though the latest GCC3.04 and snapshot-GCC are getting much better at the
crafty bench than the last stable GCC2.xx. The main point is that the latest PPC
processors don't hold any IPC advantage over x86 processors. The reverse is true
if you discount bandwidth sensitive benchmarks (L3 :)
