Hi Paul! First of all thanks a lot for bringing this theme here! I really consider it to be a big problem for some people here! I think the big problem is that internet gives us the impression "The more informations I get - the better!". So the problem of "computer chess addiction" is in fact a problem of being addictive to a new medium which gives us a lot of informations but never asks if we are in need of all these informations... The other problem is (at least for me): The more I work on computer chess the less I play chess myself. So in fact the computer doesnt help me to improve my own understanding of chess but I only watch two engines fighting each other without learning a lot while watching. My suggestions for you would be: 1. Just download the index of CCC and Winboard-forum every morning but dont read any messages. So you have the impression to be informed about everything but dont spend a lot of time reading all threads. 2. Make a print of these index and go to work. 3. In a free minute you can read this index and mark the threads which interest you with a pencil. So you will find out that a lot of threads dont interest you at all... 4. After work in the afternoon you go to internet and read just the articles which you marked before. You know you have not missed anything but you saved a lot of time and thoughts. 5. When addictive to collect engines try to play at least 10 games against a new engine before downloading a new one. This helps you better understanding the new engine and also keeps you playing chess yourself. Good luck! Peter
