Go up one level in this thread

Hi, I've just read the other posts in this thread, and it is an
interesting subject. We hear of the traditional addictions, eg alcohol
and tobacco, and sometimes harder drugs. When we fall in love, we have
just become addicted to another member of society. Being addicted to
something is like a chain holding you, quite frustrating really, and
all the more so when that addiction is detracting from your income,
and having an affect on your loved ones too. Another addiction that
comes to mind is religion. It contaminates entire communities, causing
 poverty and heartbreak.
I used to be hooked on alcohol. My solution was simple. Go cold
turkey. It only hurts for a while. Apart from the occasional small
glass of wine before retiring, I have'nt had alcohol since 1983.
I'm recommending that you force yourself to stay right away from
chess, or chess programming, including Winboard forum, and CCC, for
a week. It will be hard at first, then you will start to feel better
for having disciplined yourself. Follow this up with more periods of
abstinence. Look for another interest, perhaps cycling or bushwalking.
Something physical, rather that sitting in front of a monitor.
But rest assured, what you have admitted to us is the first step, and
 you are not alone.
  Take care
  Lin
