Seriously, why to avoid chess computer addiction? It does not hurt so much as alcohol or cocaine. Be realistic: if you are not a genius engaged from the beginning in a great task -so you do not even realize that an addicion problem exist- then, something must be done to kill the time. If you are not a genius, you will get bored a lot after working hours. And IN working hours. Life for people like us, non genuses, is a perpetual cycle between boredom and pain. Pain if a desire or need is not fulfilled; boredom if it is. So, something must be chosen. It was the recipe of Bertrand Ruseel in "The Secret of Happynnes". Each time my wife look me you-know-how when she see me playing chess, I say to her: "would you prefer I go with my friends to a bar? Or perhaps look me going to a casino?". That works fine. She shut up her big mouth and I continue my game in peace. Fernando, addicted without qualms.
