No, I'm not mistaken. You are not permitted to use all of Shredder's
capabilities. But you CAN do these:
i) play engine matches between Shredder and other engine,
ii) use Shredder to play another engines in playchess.com
iii) you CAN even play chess against Shredder. Do the following:
a) start an engine match where Shredder is WHITE against whatever
CB engine, then
b) abort that game, and then
c) start playing yourself against Shredder. Yes: Fritz, and all Fritz
chess programs, share this behavior: whenever an engine plays a
game as White, next time the program assumes that is the active
engine.
There is an important thing you can't do without the original CD: "infinite
analysis". For some reason, this doesn't work: the program will tell you to go
for the CD.
