I agree with you 100%, it is just that I do not think that we have compeletely reached that point as of yet. True that there are some programs that have exceeded 2600 or even 2700 points, but then maybe perfect chess is over 3000. We have had some people here do searches that have lasted over several days in testing some programs. I am of course thinking about perfect chess ie. solved chess without prerecording all moves in book form. I do not believe in books that exceed roughly 10 moves, after that I think that they are not opening books but in midgame and the engines should think for themselves. But then I do not think that most people will agree with me. We still had a tournemeny in the year 2000 where one program checkmated another without ever leaving its opening book. If we had perfect or near perfect algorithms already then we would not have to search very deep at all, we should be able to make the perfect move in just a couple of plys instead or 8, 10, 12 etc. IMHO (and I am opinionated) Bill
