Then there is incentive. Not sure that I agree. I mean, these matches are very highly public and gather a lot of interest. I suspect that ego is nearly as strong an inducement as money. For instance, pretend that you are in the match, and one hundred thousand people will be watching. You will try just as hard for $100 as for $10,000 I think. The only difference will be in how much energy you spend preparing. My guess is: The super GM's (Gulko for instance) are trying really, really hard to win.
