as far as i know chris was shortly before a complete rewrite of the engine.

The new user interface GUI 2.5 had parts of these rewrite as test-engines.

So in fact he was doing rewriting and - as far as i remember it - it was much
faster.

but - in those time when he did this, he was completely frustrated by various
things.

there were e.g. many people downloading the ONLY FOR PROGRAMMERS licenced
2.5 version, which had no working chess engine, and those guys made serious
testing of a broken engine and posted results of "LATEST CSTal".

also his arguments in forum. I think there were quite a few.
i think he was banned again. and again.
also he was in negotations with purple in that time. also he
did this shogi program. and lots of other stuff.

overall, he decided to quit.

i think his decision was ok.
when the amount of idiots within a group reaches a critical mass,
it makes not much sense anymore to talk with them.

leaving this group makes much sense than.

for him the amount of boring and narrow computerchess programmers
not really interested in chess was too big.

he often called them the programmers withou having the ability to speak.
as if they were dumb.

so - he is a rich man now. in capitalism becoming a rich man
is the main target.

he made this money because he was more succesful than other
chess programmers.

i think he lives at this river. maybe he does some fishing.
plays with his children in a big garden. makes lots of parties
like the one i have joint in, and discusses long into the evenings
about all kind ofn interesting things.

i wish him all the best.

his world was IMO not narrow. he had a mind full of interesting ideas.
and we had a nice time.
all the letters, the fax, the telephone calls, the emails, the games,
we exchanged. and the program we worked on.

it was a good time.

the dreams come through. we beated genius at a championship, with a sac.
i mean : what else do you want ?
we had some nice discussions in RGCC.
what else ?
