FM Dr. Miguel A. Ballicora, a strong chessplayer from Argentina and regular poster here , agreed to a very special match. He will face his own creation! GAVIOTA 0.30 ( http://www.msu.edu/~ballicor/gav/ ) is already eagerly waiting for him on an AMD Athlon 1.33 GHz with 256 MB RAM. Gaviota is a decent amateur program but it still remains an open question if it already plays better than its strong programmer. The match will be best of four - one game per session. Time control will be game in 30 minutes with 5 seconds increment/move. The first game is scheduled for tomorrow - Sunday, 24/03/2002, 4 PM EST ( this would be 10 PM in Germany) on ICC. As we don't know about handles used yet : if you are interested to watch the first game of the match live , log on to ICC as a guest if you don't have a handle ( information at http://www.chessclub.com) and type "+ch 64" . Game number and handles will be announced there. See you tomorrow. pete
