I'm still trying to figure out the value of book learning except to prevent repeated losses in the same line. My initial impression of book learning was that it would slowly increase a programs rating by weeding out bad lines and only playing lines in which it performed well. But for a program like Rebel where it has about 41,000 opening lines it seems it would take tens of thousands of games to accomplish this. Most programs never see this kind of useage except on chess servers and even then it takes years. Before that happens the program is outdated and replaced with new books and new learning files. I guess the bottom line is that I don't have a clue how book learning is supposed to work. Jim
