Subject: How to cause a big mess on CCC

Last evening Sean Evans posted a reply to a post by Bruce. I read it and didn't
notice anything, until next morning when other posters pointed out that it
starts with a profanity. Some thought this was directed at someone, others that
Sean was referring to himself. I reread the post and saw its heading, but didn't
really understand what it meant. It seemed like self-humor of some form.

Later Bruce explained that this is an attack on him because of an r.g.c.c
argument. According to this, Sean was quoting a Bruce post, and instead of
writing the formula "Bruce Moreland wrote:" replaced his name with a profanity.
Don Dailey and others agreed that this is what Sean means, and wanted to take
action against the post or against Sean.

Bruce & Don now agree that Sean was actually talking about himself, in mock
irony, quoting something the passed between him and Bruce on rgcc. There were
also email exchanges between the moderators.

I would like to explain that:

1. If we thought that Sean was using this profanity against Bruce, or anyone
else, there is no doubt we would delete this post.

2. In the situation where Sean was ironically using the profanity against
himself, at least my opinion is that this particular use is not welcome but
tolerable.

3. An hour ago I was close to a decision that the post should be deleted
whatever it means. Since several people, including Bruce, thought it was
directed against Bruce, this was causing an uproar, and I thought that even if
this is untrue Sean has only himself to blame.

Conclusions about how to create a mess on CCC:

1. Use profanity.
2. Use it an obscure context and style where people may create many theories
about who you are attacking.
3. Carry over your rgcc arguments and vendettas to CCC.
