Go up one level in this thread

Would some threshold level of "I didn't get the mail" and "I got it, but I >signed up on Ed's site, or at least might have" convince him? I got Ed's email that day--and rather enjoyed getting it. At the time, I think I briefly thought "maybe Ed got my address from CCC"--it would be quite easy to get. But, the problem is that the address to which Ed sent his email, "dnewman@bellatlantic.net", isn't the one that's listed here in the "Posted by Dan Newman" line--I've been intending to get that changed... Also, I have visited his site maybe a dozen times and have downloaded Rebel Decade. I suspect that it may have been a condition to download that you give your email address--I don't remember. >As a side-topic, do we want to have a delete-profanity-on-sight system? >Personally I don't care either way, I can live with either kind of situation. >Some people seem to feel pretty strongly though. > >bruce Hmm. The problem is that different people have different levels of tolerance for "profanity". Each person has his own set of words that he finds objectionable--for some this is the null set, others... I don't mind a bit of profanity as long as it isn't directed at someone and is only used to describe or to indicate the intensity of one's own subjective reaction to something--and can be clearly understood to be such. I guess I don't think profanity should be a reason to delete all by itself--there should have to be a strong element of personal attack. In fact I don't think profanity should ever be given as a reason for a deletion, as that would allow the party whose post was deleted a reason to complain of unfair bias against him. He would be able to dredge up other posts with "profanity" that weren't deleted as "evidence" of that bias. -Dan.
