Yes, this might possibly be true. When you play at longer time controls, the speed ratio between cpu speed and memory access speed remains the same. With a faster cpu this ratio changes, because memory speed does not keep up in proportion with cpu speed. Cache complicates the issue, but the observation remains generally correct.
